A MINOR steam-driven eruption on Tuesday morning was observed at Taal Volcano in Batangas province, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismolohy (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said the steam-driven or phreatic eruption occurred at Taal Volcano at 5:58 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
A phreatomagmatic eruption occurs when magma interacts with water and produces plumes of steam, ash and other volcanic materials.
According to Phivolcs, Taal Volcano spewed 2.8-kilometer-tall grayish plume into the sky.
Two volcanic tremors that lasted four minutes long were also recorded at the volcano.
It also emitted a moderate 600-meter tall plume, which drifted southwest.
Phivolcs classified the volcano’s latest spewing activity as “moderate emission.”
On November 30, Taal Volcano released 7,216 tons of sulfur dioxide flux.
Entry into Taal Volcano Island, which is considered a permanent danger zone, as well as flying any aircraft close to the volcano, are prohibited.
Phivolcs said more steam-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, and minor ashfall are also possible.
Taal Volcano remains under alert level 1 or low level unrest.
