MALACANANG on Sunday clarified that January 27, 2025 is a holiday only in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARRM) and other Muslim areas defined in the Muslim Code and not a holiday observed nationwide.
The Palace said that Monday, January 27, is a Muslim holiday in observance of Isra Wal Miraj, the Night Journey and Ascension of the Prophet Muhammad.
The Palace issued the clarification following a social media post that created confusion for the public.
“It is not a national holiday,” Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said in a statement Sunday.
However, for Muslims working in areas where the holiday is not recognized, such as the National Capital Region (NCR), Bersamin clarified that they would be excused from work.
Al Isra Wal Mi’raj is one of the most revered events in Islam, symbolizing the miraculous journey of the Prophet Muhammad to the heavens.
It is recognized as a Muslim holiday under Article 169 of Presidential Decree No. 1083, also known as the Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines.
