THE North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) will start implementing an increase in its toll rate starting March 2.
NLEX Corp. announced Friday that it will raise its toll by P5 in the open system and P0.72 per kilometer in the closed system effective Sunday.
The open system runs from Metro Manila in the cities of Navotas, Valenzuela and Caloocan to Marilao, Bulacan, while the closed system covers the portion between Bocaue, Bulacan and Sta. Ines, Mabalacat City, Pampanga as well as Subic-Tipo.
The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) earlier said it has authorized the toll hike which represent the consolidated amount of the first tranche of approved periodic adjustments of NLEX due in 2023.
According to the TRB, the adjustments were initially divided into two tranches to ease impact on expressway users.
It also said that the completion of the new Candaba 3rd Viaduct in late 2024 also affected the toll hike.
“Motorists have been enjoying a safer and more comfortable journeys with the new Candaba 3rd Viaduct without paying for additional toll since it was partially opened in August 2024 and fully completed December of the same year,” NLEX said in a statement.
“Serving as a vital link between Metro Manila, Central and Northern Luzon, this new bridge is expected to address the growing traffic demand in the north, contributing to tourism, trade, and commerce across regions,” it added.
Under the new toll fee matrix, drivers using the open system will pay the following adjustments:
– P5 for Class 1 vehicles
– P13 for Class 2 vehicles
– P15 for Class 3 vehicles.
Meanwhile, additional charges will be imposed to those who travel end-to-end between Metro Manila and Mabalacat City:
– P57 for Class 1 vehicles
– P142 for Class 2 vehicles
– P171 for Class 3 vehicles.
The NLEX management said the toll hike will help them maintain the quality of roads and highest standards in service.
