10 CIDG MEN PLACED UNDER RESTRICTIVE CUSTODY FOR ALLEGED KIDNAPPING, ROBBERY-EXTORTION

TEN members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) assigned at the Southern Metro Manila District Field Unit were put under restrictive custody and detained at the Philippine Custodial Facility after they were accused of kidnapping and robbery extortion.

PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo told reporters in a press briefing held at Camp Crame on Thursday that CIDG chief Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III ordered to put the 10 lawmen under restrictive custody.

“Last Monday, April 28, upon receipt ng report ng Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG), immediately, Gen. Torre put under restrictive custody 10 CIDG personnel and ordered them to be detained,” Fajardo said.

Initial probe showed that on Feb. 17, 2025, the accused CIDG personnel raided a warehouse at First Tondo Complex, Tondo, Manila and brought their targets to the CIDG office in Taguig City for alleged violation of the Republic Act 10591 or the  Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Afterward, the CIDG operatives allegedly demanded money in exchange for the release of their victims.

According to the report of the PNP IMEG, on April 21, the filing of administrative cases against the accused cops was recommended “for grave misconduct, conduct unbecoming of a police officer, and neglect of duty.”

The accused cops’ issued firearms and badges were immediately recalled and turned over to the CIDG NCR Logistics Section.

Torre said he will not tolerate such kind of irregularity in the CIDG.
