‘SURRENDER NOW,’ REMULLA TELLS OTHER FLOOD CONTROL ACCUSED; 8 OF CHARGED INDIVIDUALS NOW IN GOV’T CUSTODY  

THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) led by Secretary Jonvic Remulla issued a strong call for the immediate surrender of individuals still evading arrest in connection with the multibillion peso flood control anomaly.

The directive follows the clear guidance of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to enforce the arrest warrants without delay and ensure full accountability.

In a media briefing at Camp Crame, Remulla made it clear that law enforcement agencies will pursue every indicted individual until they are brought before the courts.

“Sumuko na kayo sa lalong madaling panahon. Kapag nag-umpisa na kami ng manhunt laban sa inyo, hindo namin masisiguraado ang kalalabasan ninyo.” Remulla said.

He stated that no distance will shield the accused from the reach of the law. He stressed that anyone who remains at large will be found and that hiding, whether abroad or within the Philippines, will not stop the implementation of lawful orders.

Remulla urged the accused who still have outstanding warrants to surrender to the nearest authorities. He emphasized that surrendering is the most responsible course of action for their families and for the country.

Eight of the charged individuals are now in government custody. They are Gerald Pacanan, Gene Ryan Althea, Ruben Santos, Dominic Serrano, Felisardo Casuno, Juliet Calvo, Lerma Cayco, and Dennis Abagon.

The following individuals have outstanding warrants of arrest: Former Ako-Bicol Partylist Rep. Zaldy Co, Timojen Sacar, Montrexis Tamayo, Aderma Angelie Alcazar, Cesar Buenaventura, Consuelo Aldon, Noel Cao, and Anthony Ngo.

Remulla confirmed that, except for Co, several of the accused believed to be abroad have already contacted Philippine authorities and are expected to proceed to the nearest Embassy for immediate repatriation. They voluntarily disclosed their locations and were advised of their right to appear at the Embassy as soon as possible.

The Secretary also warned that anyone who attempts to shelter or assist the accused will face legal consequences. He reminded the public that obstructing the implementation of lawful orders is punishable under existing laws.

PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, DOJ Acting Secretary attorney Fredderick A. Vida, and NBI OIC Director attorney Angelito Magno joined the DILG in reinforcing the administration’s commitment to accountability.

The DILG reiterates that the misuse of public funds will never be tolerated and that justice will be pursued fully and decisively.
