HOUSE TO PUSH LEGISLATION TO ADDRESS PEOPLE’S NEEDS – SPEAKER DY

HOUSE Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III on Monday highlighted the House of Representatives’ record of legislative productivity while outlining an agenda focused on lowering the cost of living, improving healthcare, strengthening transparency, and protecting Filipinos online at the opening of the Second Regular Session of the 20th Congress.

According to the Speaker, the House remained focused on responding to the daily concerns of ordinary Filipinos through legislation.

“Nandito po ako sa inyong harapan hindi bilang Speaker kundi bilang mamamayang Pilipino; kasama ko ang buong Kapulungan, na sa panahon ng pagsubok, damang-dama po natin ang pinagdaraanan ng ating mga kababayan,” Dy said.

He stressed that the House acted swiftly before the close of the First Regular Session to pass measures aimed at easing the burden on Filipino families.

“Kaya naman po bago natapos ang First Regular Session, minabuti natin na ipasa sa lalong madaling panahon ang Komprehensibong Alalay sa Livelihood, Inflation, Negosyo at Goods Assistance o KALINGA Act,” he said.

“Dahil sa pagtutulungan at pagkakaisa ng inyong mga kinatawan at ng ating mga kawani, nakapagpasa tayo ng 163 bills, kabilang ang 26 LEDAC priority bills.”

Among the measures approved during the First Regular Session were reforms strengthening the National Nutrition Program, amendments to the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), education reforms expanding Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE), amendments to the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, and the Presidential Merit Scholarship Program.

The House likewise approved 26 Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) priority measures.

Looking ahead, Dy said the House would prioritize legislation directly affecting the everyday lives of Filipinos.

“Sa ating Second Regular Session, itutuloy natin ang pagtatrabaho para maisulong ang mga repormang direktang tutugon sa mga pang-araw-araw na suliranin ng ating mga kababayan. Prayoridad nating maipasa ang Rice Industry and Consumer Empowerment Act upang mapababa ang presyo ng bigas at mapalakas ang suporta sa ating mga magsasaka; ang mga amyenda sa Universal Health Care Act upang maging dekalidad at abot-kamay ang serbisyong pangkalusugan; ang CADENA Act upang mas maging bukas at transparent ang paggamit ng pondo ng bayan; at ang Cybersecurity Act, which aims to protect every Filipino from the threats of the Digital Space,” said the Speaker from Isabela.

The House chief stressed that passing laws alone would not be enough.

“Ngunit alam nating hindi rito nagtatapos ang ating tungkulin. Let us make sure that these laws are translated into programs that are effectively implemented so they truly improve the lives of our countrymen,” he said.

Dy assured the public that lawmakers would continue working with greater diligence as Congress resumed its work.

“Sa pagbubukas muli ng sesyon, panghawakan po ninyo ang aming paninindigan na patuloy na kikilos nang masigasig, makikinig nang mas taimtim, at maglilingkod nang may pananagutan.”
