PRESIDENT MARCOS EXPRESSES SYMPATHY TO NEPAL AFTER DEADLY FLASH FLOODING

PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday extended condolences to Nepal after deadly flash floods struck villages on the Nepal-China border.

“The Philippines extends its deepest condolences to our friends in Nepal and to all those affected by the deadly flash flood yesterday,” President Marcos said in a post on X.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to those who lost family, loved ones, and friends. Please accept our most heartfelt prayers for strength in this difficult time,” he added.

It was reported that at least 270 bodies have been found following Wednesday’s devastating flash flooding, while more than 1,300 remain missing.

Citing the foreign affairs department, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a press briefing that there were no reported Filipino casualties as of Thursday morning.

“Nakikipag-coordinate na ang pamahalaan sa Nepalese authorities and with the Filipino community to determine if there are Filipinos affected by the incident,” she said.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) record show there are 18 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Nepal, and 128 Filipinos who are mostly women married to Nepalese, based on DFA data, said Castro.
