COMELEC OFFICIAL HURT IN LA UNION ROAD CRASH

AN official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) was injured in a road accident in Agoo, La Union.

Police identified the victim as attorney Reddy Balarbar,  Assistant Regional Director of Comelec Region 1 in Pangasinan.

An investigation showed Balarbar was traveling in a car when he met the accident on MacArthur Highway in Bgy. San Joaquin Norte in Agoo town.

Based on a CCTV footage, Balarbar’s vehicle  encroached the opposite lane and struck into an incoming passenger bus, which was heading towards Baguio City.

Witnesses rushed the Comelec official to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Balarbar’s wife, attorney Jennifer Balarbar, told a television interview that the Comelec official was on his way to attend a meeting when the incident happened.

“He came from Cebu, kasi may conference sila roon. From Cebu, kinabukasan may meeting sila, so wala talaga siyang tulog and at that time nagkataon, ‘yung dalawang drivers na nag-aalternate parehong may sakit. He has to attend the meeting sa region,” the wife said.
