THE Department of Energy (DOE) has started its preparations for the La Niña phenomenon to avoid or mitigate damages to transmission lines.
“La Niña naman po ang pinaghahandaan na namin ngayon, kasi pagpasok naman po ng La Niña kapag humalo sa tag-ulan sobra naman po ang tubig,” DOE Assistant Secretary Mario Marasigan said in a forum in Quezon City on Saturday.
“Iyong ating transmission line, iyong mga distribution utilities, ito po iyong ating pinaghahandaan na sana hindi naman maapektuhan,” he added.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos last month assured the administration is doing everything it can do to prepare for La Niña.
During his visit to different regions in the country, President Marcos reminded local governments to stand ready for the effects of the weather pattern that brings more the usual amount of rainfall.
The Chief Executive has also assured farmers of the government’s preparedness measures to combat the effects of the looming La Niña.
