PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos welcomed Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and his spouse, Mrs. Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam at Malacañan Palace on Thursday as they embark on a three-day state visit to the Philippines.
President Shanmugaratnam and his wife arrived past 4:00 p.m. at Malacañan and were accorded arrival honors.
President Marcos introduced President Shanmugaratnam to Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, and Health Secretary Ted Herbosa.
He also introduced Environment Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, and Communications Secretary Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil.
Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo Antonio G. Macaraig was also present during the event.
President Shanmugaratnam also introduced President Marcos to the Singaporean delegation.
The two chief executives proceeded to the Reception Hall for the customary signing of the Palace guestbook and were ushered for a private discussion, followed by a bilateral meeting.
Prior to the Palace visit, President Shanmugaratnam offered a wreath at Dr. Jose Rizal’s monument in Luneta.
The Singapore President will conclude his first state visit to the Philippines on August 17, 2024.
