PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Cavite Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” C. Remulla Jr. as the new Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. administered the oath of office of Remulla before leaving for the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Lao PDR.
The President said Remulla is more than qualified to lead the DILG, citing longtime Cavite governor’s extensive experience in local government administration.
Marcos said Remulla’s extensive and excellent work in local government administration has been met with acclaim, in the press, and by the people who have voted him to office.
“Clearly, Governor Jonvic is more than qualified to handle the challenges of one of the government’s most important jobs,” Marcos said.
“I do not have to spell out my marching orders to him because as a boot on the ground, he knows what to do and how best to do it, the most important of which are keeping our people safe in their homes and making our local governments dynamic frontliners of service,” he added.
According to the President, the best proof of Remulla’s performance is seen in how he has made Cavite province progressive, which is now an economic powerhouse.
“In every position, his people gifted him with overwhelming mandate for a job well done. He repaid the people’s trust with hard work and honest service,” the Chief Executive said.
Remulla replaced Benhur Abalos who is seeking a Senate seat in the 2025 midterm elections.
As DILG chief, Remulla will oversee local government operations nationwide and will have supervision of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection, and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology to ensure peace and order and public safety.
