Marcos Jr. expressed his optimism for achieving lasting peace, prosperity, and stronger diplomatic ties with Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine as he welcomed their new resident ambassadors to the Philippines.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>In separate ceremonies in Malaca\u00f1ang on Tuesday, President Marcos received the credentials of Ambassadors Edgar Rodrigo Rojas Garavito of Colombia, Sin Saream of Cambodia, and Yuliia Oleksandrivna Fediv of Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cI believe there\u2019s more that we can do, that we can explore many other sectors, and strengthen and deepen the relations between our two countries,\u201d President Marcos told the Colombian Ambassador.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ambassador Rojas Garavito highlighted his country\u2019s shared aspirations with the Philippines for \u201clasting peace and development.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Colombia were established on July 5, 1946. Colombia is home to approximately 100 Filipinos.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cambodian Ambassador Sin conveyed his commitment to further enhancing cooperation between Manila and Phnom Penh \u201cfor the mutual benefit and prosperity\u201d of Filipinos and Cambodians.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The President emphasized that Philippines-Cambodia relations have a strong foundation, and shared with the ambassador his hope for even stronger ties.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cI welcome you to the Philippines and I look forward to even stronger relationships between our two countries, to strengthen what is already a very strong union between our two countries,\u201d the President told Ambassador Sin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Philippines and Cambodia have maintained diplomatic relations since August 20, 1957. As of June 2024, there are approximately 7,500 Filipinos in Cambodia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ukrainian Ambassador Fediv expressed her readiness to contribute to developing bilateral relations, particularly on \u201ccollective efforts that promote peace, prosperity, and mutual respect across borders.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>President Marcos responded by reiterating the Philippines\u2019 unwavering support for all efforts to find just and lasting peace in the Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWe hope to continue \u2013 we will always support you in your efforts for peace. And we are very happy to welcome you here and to be able to have conversations with you as to what else we in the Philippines, though far away, might be able to do to help our quest for peace,\u201d the President said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Ukraine were established on April 7, 1992.
