PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday vowed to implement reforms in the country\u2019s transport system and ensure accountability for recent tragic vehicular accidents.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n In a video message posted on his official Facebook page, President Marcos expressed sympathy to the families of those who died and were injured in the recent tragedies at the SCTEX toll plaza and NAIA Terminal 1.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cTen lives were lost in a devastating collision in Tarlac. Days later, two more\u2014one of them a child\u2014were taken in a tragic accident at the airport. These incidents should never have happened,\u201d President Marcos said.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cWe will make the changes that need to be made. We will demand accountability where it is due. And we will build a transport system that truly protects Filipino people,\u201d he added.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n President Marcos said he has directed Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon to take immediate and decisive action: To identify and hold accountable those responsible.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The President also vowed to implement reforms that will better safeguard the lives of commuters and travelers.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Among the reforms are a thorough review of the driver licensing system to ensure that only fit, capable, and responsible individuals are allowed on the roads, and a nationwide audit of bus operators to ensure compliance with safety and maintenance standards.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Chief Executive is also directing the DOTr to crack down on unsafe and exploitative practices in the transport sector, which result in driver fatigue and long hours to meet quotas that compromise public safety.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cWe owe it to the victims and their families to act\u2014not only with sympathy, but with resolve.
