The rate reduction is due to lower generation and transmission charges,\u201d Meralco vice president and Corporate Communications head Joe Zaldarriaga said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meralco said the lower rates for this month were due to the decline in generation charges, transmission charges, and other charges.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The generation charge went down by P0.3144 per kWh to P7.4651 per kWh, primarily due to lower charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and Independent Power Producers (IPPs).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to Meralco, WESM charges fell by P1.1424 per kWh as a result of the improved supply situation in the Luzon Grid, while IPP charges also went down by P0.9555 per kWh due to higher average IPP dispatch and the peso appreciation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The transmission charge for residential customers was also reduced by P0.2970 per kWh.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Ancillary Service charges from the Reserve Market and the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines\u2019 (NGCP) Ancillary Service Procurement Agreements (ASPAs) both registered reductions in the April supply month,&#8221; Meralco said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;In addition, the transmission charge this May no longer includes Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC)-approved adjustments related to NGCP&#8217;s Reserve Market transactions for February and March 2024, following the completion of collection last month,&#8221; it added.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Other charges, including taxes, similarly registered a net decrease of P0.1385 per kWh.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, Meralco said that as the dry season persists, customers are advised to continue practicing energy efficiency to better manage their consumption.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HOUSEHOLDS can expect&nbsp; lower power rates this month.
