PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday said that former Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo \u201cArnie\u201d Teves Jr. will now have to answer for the criminal cases pending before the Manila Regional Trial Court.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cIt is now time for Mr. Teves to face justice,\u201d President Marcos said in a video message aired minutes after the Philippines Air Force plane carrying Teves touched down in Davao City for a refueling stop before flying to Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n President Marcos noted that he was first informed of the development by Prime Minister Xanana Gusm\u00e3o during the recently concluded ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur early this week.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cHe (Gusm\u00e3o) shared that Timor-Leste was ready to send former Congressman Teves back to the Philippines,\u201d President Marcos said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The President credited the Timor-Leste leadership for Teves\u2019 arrest.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cThis would not have happened without the assistance of President Jos\u00e9 Ramos-Horta and Prime Minister Gusm\u00e3o,\u201d President Marcos added. \u201cThey worked very hard to bring this matter to a conclusion,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Teves faces multiple criminal charges, including the high-profile assassination of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo in 2023 and other murder cases in 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cWe would like to assure our citizens that lawlessness will not go unpunished,\u201d the President emphasized.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" PRESIDENT Ferdinand R.
