PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Assistant Director Lito Magno as the agency\u2019s officer-in-charge, Malaca\u00f1ang announced on Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced Magno\u2019s appointment in a press briefing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the sidelines of President Marcos\u2019 participation in the 47th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Castro confirmed that President Marcos has accepted the resignation of NBI Director Jaime Santiago.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Santiago, a former police officer, prosecutor and judge, was appointed by President Marcos as NBI Director in June 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last August, Santiago submitted his resignation effective immediately upon the appointment of his replacement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Magno previously headed the NBI offices in Northern Mindanao and Central Luzon, where he handled major cases involving human trafficking, organized crime, and various fraud cases.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He also led the Bureau\u2019s operations that resulted in the arrest of former Bamban mayor Alice Guo in Indonesia.<\/strong><\/p>\n
