CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga \u2013 Policemen in Bulacan on Monday night shot and killed a police captain<\/strong> said to be involved in a robbery in a convenience store in Marilao town <\/strong><\/p>\n

Authorities are investigating the cop-suspect’s possible links to a robbery syndicate operating in Central Luzon.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a report to Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) director\u00a0 Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Pe\u00f1ones Jr., the Marilao police said they received a phone call around 8:30 p.m. Monday about a robbery in progress at a convenience store in Bgy. Sta. Rosa I.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Responding officers found that a man wearing a red jacket had posed as a customer before drawing a handgun, announcing a holdup, and fleeing on a motorcycle with around P20,000 cash toward Bgy. Loma de Gato.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lawmen launched a pursuit operation and later intercepted the suspect.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Officers tried to flag down the suspect but instead of yielding, the man opened fire, prompting lawmen to retaliate.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The suspect was hit during the shootout and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Further verification revealed that the slain suspect was a police captain.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pe\u00f1ones expressed dismay over the incident, emphasizing the importance of integrity and accountability within the police force.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis unfortunate incident serves as a reminder that no one is above the law,\u201d said the Central Luzon top cop.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cUnder the leadership of acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., PRO3 remains steadfast in upholding professionalism. <\/strong>We will continue to strengthen our ranks and ensure that every action we take upholds public trust<\/strong>,\u201d he added.<\/strong><\/p>\n
