THE <\/strong>House of Representatives on Monday suspended Cavite 4th district Rep. Kiko Barzaga for 60 days without pay a<\/strong>fter finding him guilty of disorderly behavior over his alleged inappropriate social media posts.<\/strong><\/p>\n With 249 members voting in the affirmative, 5 negative and 11 abstentions, the Chamber adopted the recommendations of the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges under Committee Report No. 28.<\/strong><\/p>\n 4Ps Party-list Rep. JC Abalos, <\/strong>chairman of the Committee on Ethics and Privileges,<\/strong> read the recommendations of the panel during plenary session.<\/strong><\/p>\n Abalos said Barzaga\u2019s posts were reckless, offensive, and \u201cunbefitting of a House member,\u201d adding that the content allegedly included incitement and statements that undermined the House\u2019s integrity.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cHis actions reflected negatively upon the dignity, integrity, and reputation of the House of Representatives as an institution of the members of the House individually and collectively,\u201d Abalos said in his 27-page report to the plenary.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cRespondent\u2019s reckless, offensive, and irresponsible use of his social media platform tarnishes the name, integrity, and reputation of the House of Representatives,\u201d he added.<\/strong><\/p>\n The committee ordered Barzaga to delete the 24 posts cited in the complaint within 24 hours once the report is adopted in plenary.<\/strong><\/p>\n Antipolo City 1st district Rep. Ronnie Puno and several members of the National Unity Party\u00a0 (NUP) filed the ethics complaint against Barzaga, citing \u201cinciting to sedition\u201d and violations of House rules.<\/strong><\/p>\n According to the House Committee, Barzaga\u2019s actions \u201cimposing incendiary social media contents on his Facebook accounts and retaining and failing to remove publicly-viewable inappropriate and indecent photos to be unparliamentary and unbecoming of a House member,\u201d Abalos said.<\/strong><\/p>\n The Ethics panel warned that \u201crepetition of similar misconduct will result to a more severe disciplinary action.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Barzaga said he \u201cwholeheartedly\u201d accepts the decision but \u00a0reiterated that he did not violate the Code of Conduct of the House.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" THE House of Representatives on Monday suspended Cavite 4th district Rep.
