{"id":18449,"date":"2026-01-25T03:07:29","date_gmt":"2026-01-24T19:07:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/?p=18449"},"modified":"2026-01-25T03:07:29","modified_gmt":"2026-01-24T19:07:29","slug":"boc-vows-to-deliver-abandoned-balikbayan-boxes-to-families-of-ofws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/index.php\/2026\/01\/25\/boc-vows-to-deliver-abandoned-balikbayan-boxes-to-families-of-ofws\/","title":{"rendered":"BOC VOWS TO DELIVER ABANDONED BALIKBAYAN BOXES TO FAMILIES OF OFWs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>THE Bu<\/strong><strong>reau of Customs (BOC) is looking to deliver thousands of &#8220;balikbayan&#8221; boxes abandoned in a Manila port to the families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in two months.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno issued the statement during the \u00a0inspection of more than 100 container vans loaded with balikbayan boxes at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) on Friday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to Nepomuceno, some of the balikbayan boxes have been at the port for several months, even more than two years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The boxes contain food items and personal effects, among others.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nepomuceno said they are also coordinating with the Department of Migrant Workers for the release of the container vans to forwarders.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The BOC conducted the inspection of the abandoned balikbayan boxes along with the National Bureau of Investigation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>During the inspection, Nepomuceno announced that the BOC will suspend the privileges of at least 11 deconsolidators who abandoned the balikbayan boxes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He emphasized that these companies will no longer be allowed to transact business with the BOC, ensuring that they cannot engage in handling balikbayan boxes in the future. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWe will hold them accountable for the mistakes or for abandoning their obligations to our OFWs,\u201d \u00a0he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Earlier, President Ferdinand R.
