Iranian Ambassador to the Philippines\u00a0Yousef Esmaeilzadeh\u00a0on Wednesday expressed readiness to assist the Philippines, as government officials sought Iran\u2019s commitment to designate the country as \u201cnon-hostile\u201d and ensure safe passage for Philippine-flagged vessels and oil shipments.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Iranian Ambassador made a commitment during a meeting with Department of\u00a0Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa Lazaro and Department of Energy Secretary Sharon Garin\u00a0on Wednesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Castro described the\u00a0meeting\u00a0to be\u00a0exceptionally warm and open, given their stated readiness to cooperate, \u201cwe are highly optimistic about a favorable outcome.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAmb. Esmaeilzadeh noted that they have been awaiting our outreach and reaffirmed their strong willingness to assist the Philippines with our specific requests,\u201d Castro said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Palace Press Officer noted that the officials agreed to course all detailed requests through official diplomatic channels to expedite processing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cSec Lazaro requested that Iran formally designate\u00a0 PH as a \u201cnon-hostile country\u201d and ensure safe passage for PH-flagged vessels and oil shipments. This is vital for the protection of our seafarers and our energy supply. DOE is finalizing the necessary details for immediate transmission,\u201d Castro added.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Palace Press Officer added that Secretary Lazaro expects to speak with the Iranian Foreign Minister Thursday\u00a0 to personally secure these commitments at the highest level.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Castro said Secretary Lazaro and Secretary Garin reported this matter immediately to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr..<\/strong><\/p>\n
