A TOTAL of P278 million from the Socio-Civic Projects Fund of the Office of the President has been released to provinces and local government units affected by the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao on June 8, as President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. personally visited the hardest-hit areas of Sarangani Province and General Santos City on Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During his visit, President Marcos announced a financial assistance package to help local governments address the immediate needs of displaced families and accelerate recovery and rehabilitation efforts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the assistance program, Sarangani Province and General Santos City will each receive P50 million. South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat were allocated P30 million each, while Davao Occidental and the municipality of Glan in Sarangani will receive P20 million each.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zamboanga City was allotted P15 million, while 12 other affected local government units will receive assistance ranging from P3 million to P10 million.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President said the funds would support relief operations, the restoration of basic services, and rebuilding efforts in communities severely affected by the powerful earthquake.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Apart from the socio-civic fund assistance, the national government also extended support through the Local Government Support Fund of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The DBM has already released P100 million to General Santos City for the repair and rehabilitation of its damaged city hall.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, an additional P50 million each will be released to the municipalities of Alabel and Glan in Sarangani Province for the improvement and rehabilitation of government buildings and a hospital damaged by the earthquake.<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Marcos inspected damaged infrastructure and met with local officials, emergency responders, and affected residents to assess the extent of the destruction and determine the assistance needed by communities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President assured earthquake victims that the national government remains fully committed to helping them recover and rebuild their lives, stressing that government agencies are closely coordinating with local authorities to ensure the prompt delivery of aid and rehabilitation support.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The June 8 earthquake caused extensive damage to public buildings, hospitals, schools, roads, and private residences across several provinces in Mindanao, prompting the government to mobilize emergency response and recovery efforts in the affected areas.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
