THE two teens who allegedly killed three fellow students and wounded several others in a shooting spree at a school in Tacloban City, Leyte planned the attack, police on Tuesday said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Probers cited the social media exchanges between the young suspects prior to the gun attack inside the <\/strong>San Jose National High School in Tacloban City around 9 a.m. Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Police said suspects \u201cNash,\u201d a 15-year-old Grade 9 student, and \u201cRod,\u201d14, a Grade 10 student tested positive for gunpowder nitrates.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Investigation showed that during their exchange of messages, the two suspects believed they were mere juvenile delinquents who may get out of jail when they reach the age of 21.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In their online conversation, suspect \u201cRod\u201d asked \u201cNash\u201d if they can be charged with murder and illegal possession of firearms.\u00a0 The latter replied: \u201cNo Bro. We stole it. Minors cant\u2019 be charged.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The two also plotted to sneak in their weapons inside the school where they will shoot their fellow students. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cRod\u201d \u00a0allegedly even told \u201cNash\u201d to wear a balaclava.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Suspect \u201cNash\u201d stole the service 9mm pistol of his aunt-a policewoman with the rank of Police Staff Sergeant and assigned at the Police Regional Office 8.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Witnesses told police that before the attack, the young suspects stayed inside their school\u2019s comfort room for nearly an hour. The suspects initially fired outside the window of their classroom before shooting the students.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Recovered at the scene were 21 spent 9mm cartridges, seven lead fragments of fired bullets, 13 cartridges, two deformed fired bullets, three fired bullets, an empty 9mm magazine and one misfired cartridge at the scene of the attack.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cRod\u201d was arrested right inside the school compound by an intelligence agent of the Tacloban City Police Office and a fireman who happened to be in the area.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cNash\u201d surrendered to the authorities and yielded a bag containing his aunt\u2019s service firearm, a foldable baton, a bonnet, a white sweatshirt, a vest, a firearm holster and a white t-shirt.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A caliber 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a cal. .38 revolver recovered from the suspects have been subjected to ballistics examination. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The policewoman-aunt of \u201cNash\u201d is now undergoing investigation for negligence.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cRod\u201d yielded the cal. .38 revolver with a fired bullet and five live ammunition in the<\/strong>\u00a0cylinder. The gun was registered under the name of a Cebu City-based security agency, which is now being investigated by the PNP Civil Security Group.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>Investigators are looking into \u201cyouth violent extremism\u201d and \u201cbullying\u201d as behind the deadly attack.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following the Tacloban bloody shooting, the Philippine National Police (PNP) deployed personnel in schools across the country to ensure the safety of the students and school personnel.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prior to the Tacloban shooting, stabbing incidents were recorded inside schools in Cavite.<\/strong><\/p>\n

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. directed <\/strong>all police units to intensify police visibility, strengthen preventive patrols, conduct security assessments, and maintain close coordination with school authorities, local government units, parents, and community stakeholders to ensure that every school remains a safe, secure, and conducive environment for learning.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The National Police Commission (Napolcom) said it will conduct a motu proprio investigation into the possible liability of the policewoman aunt of one of the minors that launched a shooting spree inside the Tacloban school.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Napolcom Commissioner attorney Rafael Vicente Calinisan said the female cop has a lot of explaining to do being the owner of the gun used in the fatal shooting spree.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Calinisan said that \u201cthis intentional or negligent act\u201d of the policewoman in allowing her niece to use her issued firearm led to the death of three students , and the wounding of many others.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cShe has a lot of explaining to do,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara called for a deeper understanding of children’s behavior following initial findings that the deadly shooting at the San Jose National High School was a well-planned attack.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We have to guide children because they are exposed to a lot of violence online, while some of their parents are working in other provinces. My message to teachers is that we are the second parents of these children, and we must talk to them and understand their mindset,” \u00a0Angara said as he called for accountability from those responsible for providing the firearms used in the attack.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“It is not normal for children to have guns. Not every household owns firearms. The question is, how did these children gain access to them?” asked the DepEd secretary.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the families of the victims are seeking justice for the death of their loved ones.<\/strong><\/p>\n
