{"id":21300,"date":"2026-09-10T23:01:23","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T15:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/?p=21300"},"modified":"2026-09-10T23:01:23","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T15:01:23","slug":"palawan-bound-ship-catches-fire-5-dead-over-80-missing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/index.php\/2026\/09\/10\/palawan-bound-ship-catches-fire-5-dead-over-80-missing\/","title":{"rendered":"PALAWAN-BOUND SHIP CATCHES FIRE; 5 DEAD, OVER 80 MISSING"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A PASSENGER ship on Wednesday night caught fire in the waters off Coron, Palawan leaving five people dead while 87 others remained missing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab, 43 passengers were rescued.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>An investigation showed that a fire broke out inside <\/strong><strong>MV June Aster, operated by Atienza Interisland Shipping Line<\/strong><strong> , at around 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The passenger vessel was carrying<\/strong><strong> carrying 117 passengers and 17 crew members when it departed from the Port of Manila bound for Coron, Palawan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> Survivors told probers that they scampered for their safety after seeing the fire spreading, Some of the passengers they said jumped off the burning ship.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The missing individuals are still the subject of rescue operations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A PASSENGER ship on Wednesday night caught fire in the waters off Coron, Palawan leaving five people dead while 87 others remained missing.
