PUBLIC utility vehicles are set to increase fare starting Monday, Sept. 28.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This after Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has approved the recommendation of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to implement public utility vehicle (PUV) fare adjustment that was suspended in March 2026, in response to the continued rise in fuel prices and its impact on the transportation sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the approved fare adjustment, the minimum fare for traditional jeepneys will increase by P1 from P13 to P14 for the first four kilometers, with an additional P2 for every succeeding kilometer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Modern jeepneys meanwhile, will have a P2 increase for its base fare, from P15 to P17, with an additional P2.40 for every succeeding kilometer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For Metro Manila and city buses, the new fares are P15 for the first five kilometers for ordinary buses while P18 for the first five kilometers for airconditioned buses.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Airport taxi fares will also increase to P115 for the first 500 meters.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For TNVS, the new base fares are: P55 for hatchbacks; P65 for sedans, P75 for AUVs\/SUVs; and P165 for premium vehicles.<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier directed the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to ensure a balance between the sustainability of PUV operations and the needs of the commuters while maintaining sufficient and reliable public transport services.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prior to the approval of the fare adjustment rates in March, the DOTr and LTFRB had already made consultations with various transport groups.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kaya hindi na ito sapat para magkaroon nang maayos na kita \u2018yung ating mga driver at operator. Napapanahon na itong dagdag-pasahe para masiguro rin nating sapat ang mga PUV sa kalsada, at may masasakyan ang ating mga komyuter,\u201d Lopez explained.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fare adjustment petitions for regular, premium silver and premium gold taxi services remain pending with the LTFRB. On the other hand, UV Express service already has a provisional fare increase.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lopez said PUVs with approved fare adjustments must post their corresponding update fare matrices in their respective units before charging passengers with new rates. <\/strong><\/p>\n

He added that PUVs must continue to give mandatory 20% fare discounts to students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.<\/strong><\/p>\n
