SENATOR Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa may be safer staying in the Philippines than risking arrest abroad, given the international nature of the arrest warrant against him, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Monday said.<\/strong><\/p>\n Lacson said the International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant limits dela Rosa’s options as he could be more exposed to arrest if he flees to another country.<\/strong><\/p>\n “Ang sitwasyon ni Sen. Bato mahirap kasi warrant niya international. Saan siya pupunta? Pag pumunta siya sa ibang bansa, mas exposed siya, mas madali siya mahuhuli doon (Sen. dela Rosa’s situation is difficult because the ICC warrant is international. Where will he go? If he goes abroad, he would be more exposed and it will be easier for authorities to arrest him),” he said in an interview on DZMM radio.<\/strong><\/p>\n Lacson said that had the arrest warrant against dela Rosa – in connection with the Duterte administration’s war on drugs –\u00a0 been issued in the Philippines, he could have sought refuge in a country that has no extradition treaty with the Philippines.<\/strong><\/p>\n “Pero kung ang warrant mo sa ICC, wala kang susuotan. Mas safe ka pa sa Pilipinas ,” he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n On Sunday, Lacson said he is hoping and praying for due process for dela Rosa and that, should his arrest take place, it will be carried out peacefully and without tragedy.<\/strong><\/p>\n In Monday’s interview, Lacson said it would be wrong to answer one injustice with another by denying dela Rosa due process, as some groups seeking justice for victims of extrajudicial killings (EJKs) under the Duterte administration have called for.<\/strong><\/p>\n “Huwag natin masamain ang due process dahil walang due process ang na-EJK, gusto natin wala na ring due process si Sen. Bato.
