OPERATIVES of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a woman posing as a top caliber lawyer in Bacoor City, Cavite.<\/p>\n

Nabbed was Ma. Erika Jouielun Catarbas, 50.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The suspect is facing charges for estafa under Article 315 (2)(a) of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) and Unauthorized Practice of Law.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Catarbas, alias “Atty. Mendoza,” allegedly amassed P19 million in legal fees from March 2023 to October 2023 by allegedly deceiving a client-complainant.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The NBI said the suspect demanded an additional P5 million from the complainant as an outstanding balance for her purported legal services.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Sensing something suspicious, the complainant sought the help of the NBI, leading to Catarbas’ arrest in an entrapment operation.<\/p>\n
