{"id":4801,"date":"2024-04-03T00:31:46","date_gmt":"2024-04-02T16:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/?p=4801"},"modified":"2024-04-03T00:31:47","modified_gmt":"2024-04-02T16:31:47","slug":"doh-warns-vs-heat-stroke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.journaldailynewsonline.com.ph\/index.php\/2024\/04\/03\/doh-warns-vs-heat-stroke\/","title":{"rendered":"DOH WARNS VS HEAT STROKE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>THE <\/strong><strong>Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday warned the public against heat-related illnesses that become more prevalent with extreme temperatures.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The warning was issued after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) recorded high temperatures, over 41 degrees Celsius, in multiple locations  in the country from March 28 to April 1, 2024. The same trend is forecast until April 3.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>PAGASA said temperatures ranging from 33 to 41 degrees Celsius are classified as \u201cextreme caution\u201d and temperatures from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius as \u201cdanger.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cSuch temperatures can lead to heat cramps and heat exhaustion, characterized by symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, headache, vomiting, and light-headedness,\u201d the DOH said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to the Health Department, prolonged &nbsp;heat exposure increases the probability of heat stroke, a serious condition characterized by loss of consciousness, confusion, or seizures, which can be deadly if left untreated.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Other schools and local government units have already suspended face-to-face classes due to hot weather.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>DOH Undersecretary Enrique Tayag urged other schools to prioritize the conditions of the students.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;\u201cTama naman po \u2018yun kasi unahin muna ang kalagayan ng mga mag-aaral. Kailangan talaga ang mga paaralan ay tignan kung kakayanin ng mga mag-aaral na pumasok sa tindi ng init.\u201d Tayag told a radio interview.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tayag also advised schools to open their windows during classes and to remind their students regularly to stay hydrated.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>Earlier, the DOH released a public advisory on what to do in case anyone experiences symptoms of heat stroke.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The DOH said a person suffering from heat stroke must be moved to a shaded and cool area and must be provided ventilation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The person\u2019s outer clothing may be removed and cold compresses, ice packs, cold water, or cold wet cloth must be applied on the skin, especially the head, face, neck, armpits, wrists, ankles, and groin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Health Department also encouraged the public to regularly monitor temperature reports from the PAGASA and to take preventive measures against heat-related illnesses such as drinking plenty of water; wearing of loose fitting, lightweight clothing and &nbsp;limiting time spent outdoors between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m..<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday warned the public against heat-related illnesses that become more prevalent with extreme temperatures.
