DUE to the modernization program of the government, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) now has the strength and capability to keep up with the modern era.<\/p>\n

According to BFP chief Director Louie S. Puracan, the modernization program has allowed the BFP to meet the modern challenges of the times, citing the increase of the bureau\u2019s firetrucks, ambulances and equipment.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Puracan said that in the coming 2024, the government will continue to allocate budget for the BFP modernization program.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The official also said that as part of the government’s modernization program, Congress will allocate an additional P3- billion for the modernization of the BFP.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Earlier, the BFP received an unmodified opinion from the Commission on Audit (COA) for the first time in the fiscal year of 2022 and it got a perfect score of 20.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Based on the COA report, the BFP received a 93 percent score, with an equivalent rating of excellent score from the first Financial Performance Rating report.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It can be recalled that the COA favored the action of the BFP that it should have a modernization program to keep up with the modern times.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
As part of the government’s modernization program in the BFP, 54 new fire trucks were distributed to local fire stations.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos said the newly-purchased fire trucks, with 1,000-gallon capacity, were distributed to fire stations that do not have sufficient firefighting capabilities.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“The distribution of these modern and innovative fire trucks is a proof that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the DILG prioritize the safety of our communities and people,” Abalos said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Out of the total 54 fire trucks, the Bicol Region got the most number with eight, followed by Caraga with seven; and Northern Mindanao with five.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the DILG chief assured that in addition to acquiring new fire trucks, ambulances, and equipment, the skills and expertise of firefighters will also be developed.<\/p>\n
