PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared January 9 a special non-working day in the City of Manila in observance of the Feast of Jesus Nazareno.
The holiday declaration was contained in Proclamation 766 signed on Friday.
“In order to ensure orderly procession of devotees and to facilitate the flow of traffic, the City of Manila requests that Thursday, 09 January 2025, be declared a special (non-working) holiday,” according to Proclamation No. 766 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on authority of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. .
Millions of devotees flock to Quiapo Church every January 9 to honor the Jesus Nazareno in hopes of getting their prayers answered or receiving miracles.
Among the highlights of the feast is the Traslacion or the procession of the 400-year-old black image of Jesus Nazareno from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will be deploying over 14,000 officers to secure the event.
