CITY OF SAN PEDRO, Laguna — Laguna 1st district Rep. Ann Matibag on Thursday led emergency relief efforts for families displaced by a landslide that struck Bgy. Sampaguita in this city.
The incident occurred at around 10 p.m. after torrential rains brought by Typhoon “Crising” and the intensified southwest monsoon (habagat) caused a portion of a riprap wall to collapse.
The landslide left the homes of seven families — totaling 37 individuals — uninhabitable.

Matibag, fondly called “Lagunanay,” immediately visited the affected site to assess the situation and ensure the prompt delivery of assistance to the victims.
Each displaced family received P10,000 in financial assistance, along with grocery packs and hygiene kits.
The relief operation was carried out in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and the Zonta Club of Laguna.
“Hindi dapat mawalan ng pag-asa ang ating mga kababayan. Nananawagan tayo ng pagkakaisa at mabilis na tugon upang maibalik ang kanilang kaligtasan at maayos na pamumuhay,” Matibag said.
She also called on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and other concerned agencies to begin immediate rehabilitation efforts to repair damaged infrastructure and prevent further hazards.
The affected families are currently taking temporary shelter at the barangay hall, which has been designated as an evacuation center.
Local authorities continue to monitor the area for possible further landslides as rains persist in the region.
