MASANTOL, Pampanga — A barangay captain on Tuesday was killed while another was injured in an ambush in this town.
A report to Police Regional Office 3 (PRO 3) director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr. identified the fatality as Jinky Quiambao, 43, the incumbent barangay captain of Balibago, Masantol.
The wounded was Enrique A. Yamat, 54, the village chief of Nigui, Masantol.
Initial probe showed Quiambao and Yamat had just finished a transaction at the municipal hall in Bgy. San Nicolas and were on their way home when the attack occurred.
Witnesses said the victims were stepping out of their vehicle in Bgy. Alauli when two unidentified armed men emerged and opened fire at them.
Quiambao sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Domingo B. Flores District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Yamat was also brought to the same hospital and was later transferred to José B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital (JBL) in the City of San Fernando for further medical treatment.
The assassins fled on a motorcycle toward the dike area of Bgy. Batasan in Macabebe.
A follow-up investigation is underway to determine the identities of the suspects and the possible motives for the attack.
Authorities appealed to the public for any information that may aid in the swift identification and arrest of the gunmen.
