AFP PLACES ALL UNITS IN METRO MANILA UNDER RED ALERT

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) un Tuesday night placed all its units in Metro Manila under Red Alert  status “to ensure heightened operational readiness.”

The AFP made the move following the rally by the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC)  near the EDSA People’s Power Monument in Quezon City.

Thousands of members of the INC held the demonstration  to express support for Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, who is facing a plunder case over an alleged undeclared campaign donation.

The religious group is also calling for  transparency and accountability in the government.

In a statement the AFP said the Red Alert status keeps AFP personnel and assets prepared to support civil authorities, when requested, in accordance with the constitution, existing laws, and established procedures.

“The AFP remains a professional, non-partisan institution committed to upholding the rule of law, respecting human rights, and protecting the rights of all Filipinos while fulfilling its mandate to safeguard the nation,” it added.

According to the AFP, they are coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other agencies “to promote public safety, security, and the uninterrupted delivery of essential services.”
