SENATOR Robinhood Padilla on Friday led the unveiling of a newly-built onion storage facility in Talavera, Nueva Ecija.
The facility, which was constructed in Bgy. Bantug, Talavera town, can hold up to 60,000 bags of onion.
It was constructed as part of the government’s continuing effort to help farmers lessen their post-harvest losses.
The construction of the facility, which costs P125 million, was funded under the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Program and whose main beneficiary was the Bantug Agricultural Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BAMC).
Assisting the senator during the blessing and ribbon-cutting rites were Vice Mayor Nerivi Santos-Martinez, his brother, actor and former Nueva Ecija Board member Rommel Padilla, BAMC chair Victorino Robles, BAMC manager Nora Angeles, PRDP project director Dr. Arthur Dayrit, councilor Lito Silva and Liga ng Barangay president Bgy.Capt. Ben Tiangco.
Mayor Nerito “JR” Santos Jr. said the putting up of the onion cold storage facility was a “dream come true” for his father, former three-term mayor Nerito “Nery” L. Santos Sr..
Santos-Martinez said the new facility will give a big boost to local onion farmers and the town’s inclusive growth in agriculture.
