THE province of Zambales on Sunday recorded 53°C, classified as “extreme danger.”
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the heat index in Iba Zambales reached a scorching 53°C on Sunday, April 28.
It was the highest that the country’s weather bureau has recorded so far for 2024.
The Iba station registered either 42 or 43 degrees Celsius the previous four days.
Subic Bay, Olongapo; Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; and Dagupan, Pangasinan registered 47 degrees.
It was 43 degrees from the Quezon City and Pasay City stations.
Heat index is the apparent temperature felt by the body taking into account relative humidity, which is defined by experts as the measure of how much water vapor is in a water-air mixture compared to the maximum amount possible.
Health experts advised everyone to stay hydrated during days of extreme heat, keep drinking water before you feel thirsty, especially if outdoors or performing physical activity.
