AUTHORITIES on Saturday night arrested a South African national for allegedly carrying P42.16 million worth of shabu at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City.
Suspect Phillip Theunissen, 31, who arrived from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia., was caught during an interdiction operation at the NAIA at around 9:20 p.m. on Saturday.
Prior to the arrest, airport authorities noticed suspicious items in Theunissen’s luggage while at the x-ray screening area.
Airport personnel inspected the suspect’s luggage and found around 6.2 kilos of shabu in a transparent plastic pouch wrapped with packing tape.
The illegal drugs were stashed beneath the suspect’s clothes.
Police confiscated Theunissen’s passport, cell phone and travel documents.
The South African man and the seized illegal drugs were immediately turned over to PDEA for inquest proceedings.
Charges for importing illegal drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Law were filed against the arrested foreigner.
