ABOUT 500 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City and Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City were transferred to the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) and CIW in Mindanao.
According to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), the group, consisting of 450 males and 50 females, arrived at the Port of Nasipit in Agusan del Norte, en route to their designated facilities.
The transfer process was conducted under the supervision of prison officers from the BuCor, along with personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The relocation aims to alleviate overcrowding in the existing prisons and address concerns related to troublesome inmates.
The BuCor manages various prison facilities, including Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF) in Zamboanga City; CIW; Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Oriental Mindoro; NBP; DPPF; and Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) in Southern Leyte.
