A RESCUE operation on Saturday turned into an encounter that left a policeman dead and another wounded in Angeles City, Pampanga.
Two Chinese women were safely rescued during the operation.
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., Angeles City police director Col. Amado Mendoza Jr. identified the fatality as SSgt. Nelson Santiago, a member of the Anti-Kidnapping Group-Luzon Field Unit (AKG-LFU), while the injured was PCMs Eden Accad.
The rescue operation at a house in Feliza Village, Angeles City led by Maj. Nur-Hajtain Sampulna and a team from the AKG-LFU headed by Capt. Adrian James Albayra, together with the Chinese Police Attaché, resulted in the safe rescue of two female Chinese nationals identified as Zhou Lin and Zhou Jiangxiang.
Two alleged kidnappers named Hu Kai and Ryu Dong, both Chinese nationals, were arrested.
Initial probe showed the officers launched the rescue operation following reports that the two Chinese women were abducted by their compatriots.
The rescue operation led to an armed encounter.
The wounded cops were rushed to the Angeles University Foundation Hospital, where Santiago was declared dead upon arrival.
Confiscated from the suspects were a cal. .45 pistol, a cal. .38 revolver, and some drug paraphernalia.
