A FILIPINA tourist who was said to be posing for a photo was hit by an oncoming train at Shifen Station in Pingxi district in Taiwan.
The victim, who was in her 30’s, suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital for treatment.
According to Central News Agency (CAN), the Filipina suffered a laceration on her head.
The Manila Economic Cultural Office (MECO) said the Filipina is in stable condition but will require surgery to address injuries to her head, chest and hips.
MECO chairperson Cheloy Garafil said the relatives of the victim have already been informedof the incident.
Local media reports said the incident occurred on Jan 20 in front of stores that sell sky lanterns in Shifen Old Street, a popular tourist destination in New Taipei City’s Pingxi district.
A CCTV footage from a nearby store showed the woman is seen stretching her arms out to pose for a photo when a Taiwan Railway train slams into her arm.
The impact sends her falling to the ground, and almost rolling under the train.
Taiwanese police said the woman had trespassed on the railway and might face a fine up to TWD50,000 or almost P100,000 in accordance with Taiwan’s Railway Act.
