FIFTEEN illegal gun-making sites on Tuesday were dismantled by the police in simultaneous operations in Danao City, Cebu.
The Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) said members of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 (RMFB7) and the Danao City Police Station conducted the raids in 10 shanties following intelligence information on the illegal firearm production in the areas.
According to the PRO7, eight suspects were arrested while one surrendered to the authorities.
Seized during the operations were 10 lathe machines, unfinished pistols, including two lower receivers, three upper receivers, and three barrels, a grinder, a bench vice, a welding machine, a framed hacksaw, assorted steel files, drill bits, sawdust and assorted magazines
PRO7 chief Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said the simultaneous operations were part of their countermeasures against criminal gangs, drug syndicates, private armed groups, and terrorists who rely on illicit gun factories.
“The simultaneous dismantling of 15 illegal gun-making sites reflects the intensity of our commitment to rid Central Visayas of deadly weapons,” Maranan said.
He added that the move was to prevent the illegal guns to reach the hands of criminal gangs, drug syndicates, private armed groups, and even insurgents such as the New People’s Army and other terrorist groups.
