REVIVED SHIPBUILDING INDUSTRY EXPECTED TO CREATE  4300 NEW JOBS

PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday said the reopening of the HD Hyundai Shipyard in Subic, Zambales would generate job opportunities for 4,300 Filipino workers and livelihood benefits for their families.

During his speech at the inauguration, the President emphasized that the shipyard’s operations will play a vital role in improving the socio-economic conditions of the workers and contributing to community development.

“By 2030, we look forward to this yard employing 4,300 Filipinos. That equates to thousands of families with food on the table, thousands of workers with dignity in their craft, and thousands of Filipinos who see shipbuilding as a source of livelihood,” President Marcos said.

The President acknowledged that the Philippines, long known as the world’s top supplier of seafarers, must also prove itself capable of supplying the ships they sail.

“For decades, even centuries, the Philippines has given the world our finest seafarers. It is only fitting that we also supply the world with excellent vessels to sail on,” President Marcos said.

The Chief Executive recognized that this partnership with Hyundai will not only revive an industry but also secure a sustainable future for generations of Filipino workers.

President Marcos said that the shipyard marks a milestone in demonstrating the country’s commitment to developing industries that support both national development and global trade.

As of the end of July 2025, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Philippines (HHIP) has made a total investment of USD130 million and employs a total of 1,200 employees.

By the end of December 2025, the total investment is projected to reach USD180 million, and USD230 million by 2030.
