A FIRE on Monday hit a hospital in Pulilan, Bulacan leaving a patient confined in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) dead.
A report from the Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) identified the fatality as Marcelino Leonardo, a retired police officer.
Leonardo, who was confined at the ICU of the Our Lady of Mercy General Hospital in Bgy.Longos, died minutes after he was rescued and taken out of the building.
Seventeen other patients were safely evacuated.
The rescued patients were transferred to La Consolacion General Hospital and Marcelo Padilla Hospital in the neighboring Plaridel town.
An investigation showed the fire started at 2:24 a.m. Monday on the second floor of the hospital and was declared out at 5:40 a.m..
Arson probers are determining the cause of fire.
