THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has offered a P1 million reward for any information that would lead to the arrest of the principal suspect and his accomplices in the killing of a member of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group whose body was found on Saturday inside a septic tank in Malolos City, Bulacan.
According to DILG Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla, the P1 million bounty will be given to the tipster that would lead police to the whereabouts of prime suspect Julian Salamatand his cohorts.
Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones, in a press briefing at Camp Crame, said they have also arrested a member of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office he identified as Cpl. Vivencio Abalos for failing to arrest the suspect after he went to him and admit to the killing of Police Staff Sergeant Renato Casauay Jr..
“Nung mangyari ang insidente, nung hapon, si Julian Salamat at isang witness ang nagreport kay Cpl. Abalos tungkol sa nangyaring pagpatay, kung pano niya binaril si Casauay pero wala siyang ginawa,” said the Central Luzon police director.
“As a police officer, dapat na inaresto niya agad ang suspect pero nalaman na lang namin ang tunay na istorya after six days. That’s why, when we completed the story, we arrested Cpl. Abalos as an accessory to the fact,” Peñones added.
Casauay was found dead inside a septic tank in Bgy. Mucon in Malolos City last Saturday. He was last seen on January 24 which was his birthday.
Prior to the killing, a PRO3 investigation showed that Casauay told his wife he would meet an “asset” in Malolos City. His wife reported him missing after he failed to return home.
An investigation showed Casauay sustained a gunshot wound in the head and two in his hands.
A CCTV footage presented by Remulla to newsmen at Camp Crame showed the victim with some of the suspects before at least six successive gunshots were heard in the area.
The suspects then cleaned the crime scene and brought the cop’s body in the septic tank in an effort to hide their crime.
