CAVITE 4th district Rep. Kiko Barzaga on Monday night surrendered to the police after a court in Makati City issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with the cyber libel cases files against him.
The lawmaker yielded to Dasmariñas Component City Police Station OIC Lt. Col. Mac Arthur Mercader at 6:59 p.m. on Monday.
Earlier, the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 147 issued a warrant of arrest against Barzaga, who is facing eight counts of cyber libel cases.
The warrant, signed by Presiding Judge Karla Regina D. Valera-Chua, stated that the charges stem from an alleged violation of Section 4(c)(4) of Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
A bail was set at P48,000 per count.
The lawmaker posted bail at 10:25 p.m. of the same day and left the Cavite police station.
Barzaga had earlier been suspended by the House of Representatives for disorderly behavior.
