PRO3 WEEKLONG OPERATIONS NET 27 SUSPECTS, P4.9-M SMUGGLED CIGARETTES

CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga — Central Luzon police’s intensified campaign against illegal tobacco trade resulted in the arrest of 27 suspects and the confiscation of nearly P4.9 million worth of smuggled and counterfeit products over a one-week period.

According to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jess Mendez, a total of 220 operations were conducted from April 6 to 12 that resulted in the confiscation of thousands of illicit tobacco items, including master cases, cartons, reams, and individual packs, across multiple provinces.

He said majority of the recovered contraband came from Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, and Pampanga, highlighting ongoing ground-level efforts to dismantle illegal distribution networks and protect legitimate businesses.

Mendez said the intensified crackdown was carried out in line with directives from Interior Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla and Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. to curb illegal trade activities that impact both the economy and public safety.

“This is not just a routine operation. It is about protecting our communities and ensuring that those who profit from illegal trade are held accountable,” he said.

Mendez assured the public that PRO3 will continue to implement intelligence-driven and coordinated operations throughout the region.

“Our operations will continue. We remain committed to safeguarding the public and delivering fast, honest, and responsive service,” he added.
