TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija — Unidentified suspects on Monday shot dead a man during a power outage on Maharlika Highway in Bgy. San Miguel na Munti, this town.
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) director Brig. Gen. Jess Mendez by the Talavera Police Station, the victim was aboard a tricycle traveling northbound toward the town proper when he briefly alighted at the roadside.
The suspects in a black Toyota Innova, who were tailing the victim, stopped nearby.
One of the suspects, seated on the passenger side of the vehicle, approached the victim, which led to a confrontation.
During the altercation, the suspect drew a firearm and shot the victim multiple times, killing him on the spot.
Authorities said one of the suspects then boarded the victim’s tricycle and fled northbound, while the getaway vehicle proceeded southbound toward Cabanatuan City.
Police immediately launched an investigation and conducted interviews with possible witnesses to gather more information about the assailants and the motive for the killing.
Law enforcement units have also requested the implementation of “Oplan Bakod,” a security measure that involves setting up checkpoints to seal off possible escape routes.
