ALLEGED QUARREL OVER PARKING AT CAVITE RESORT LEAVES COP, CIVILIAN DEAD, 1 WOUNDED

AN alleged heated altercation over parking early Wednesday morning left a police officer and a civilian dead and another law enforcer wounded in Maragondon, Cavite.

The fatalities were a police master sergeant assigned to the Magallanes Municipal Police Station (MPS) , and  a  civilian working as a security detail for a mayor.

The wounded was a police corporal assigned to the Ternate MPS.

All three victims are residents of Magallanes, Cavite.

The alleged suspect, a 35-year-old police corporal assigned to the Trece Martires City Police Station, was arrested by responding policemen.

The shooting occurred at the parking area of a resort in Bgy. San Miguel A in Maragondon town around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday,

An initial police report showed all four individuals were “under the influence of liquor” and were about to leave the resort in Bgy. San Miguel A when the incident happened.

Prior to the shooting, the victims and the cop-suspect had a heated argument regarding the resort’s parking area.

Confiscated from the cop-suspect was his service firearm, a Glock 17 9mm pistol with a loaded magazine, allegedly used in the shooting.

Recovered from one of the victims was a Pietro Beretta 9mm pistol with a loaded magazine.

Cavite Police Provincial Office Provincial Director Col. Ariel R. Red has ordered the administrative relief of the chief of the Maragondon Municipal Police Station pending the completion of the investigation.

Upon learning of the incident, Police Regional Office 4A (PRO4A) acting Regional Director Brig. Gen.  Dominic L. Baccay  immediately directed the Cavite Police Provincial Office to conduct a thorough, impartial, and evidence-based investigation to establish the facts and determine any criminal or administrative liability.

Baccay extended his deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased victims and continues to monitor the condition of the surviving victim.

He said appropriate administrative and operational measures have likewise been undertaken in accordance with existing policies and procedures.

The PRO4A top cop assured the public that no one is above the law, and no police personnel is exempt from accountability.

“In line with integrity monitoring as one of the focus agenda of the chief PNP and PRO 4A B.E.S.T. Policing Framework, we will not tolerate misconduct, abuse of authority, or any unlawful act that compromises the integrity of the police organization and erodes public trust,” Baccay said.

“Any personnel found liable shall be dealt with decisively and in accordance with the law while ensuring due process and fairness to all concerned,” he added.
