2 PINOY SEAMEN KILLED IN STRAIT OF HORMUZ ATTACK

TWO Filipino seafarers were killed after their vessel on Monday was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz.

Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac made the confirmation on Wednesday night  (Sept. 2)

Cacdac said the Saudi oil tanker SIDR was hit by a still unknown projectile while traversing the Strait of Hormuz.

“Isa siyang crude oil tanker at siya’y inatake ng still unknown projectiles that hit the ship as it was about to cross the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.

“Unfortunately, meron tayong dalawang tripulanteng nasawi, as a result of the attack,” he added.

The DMW chief expressed his deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.

According to Cacdac, the bodies of the two fatalities have already been brought to Oman, while the 14 surviving crew members are safe and awaiting their flight home, with the hekp of Omani authorities.

He said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the immediate repatriation of the Filipino crew men and directed government agencies to extend full assistance to the bereaved families.

Cacdac reiterated its call to ship owners with Filipino crew members to avoid passing the Strait of Hormuz for being a high-risk zone

The Strait of Hormuz  has been subjected to airstrikes as tensions continue between Iran and the United States of America joined by Israel.
