SEVERAL SCOOLS SUSPEND CLASSES AS TRANSPORT STRIKE STARTS MARCH 24, 2025

TRANSPORT group MANIBELA  today, March 24, 2025, started its three-day transport strike.

MANIBELA  said the strike is to show protest to what they claim are inaccurate consolidation figures under the government’s Public Transport Modernization Program.

Several schools have suspended classes today,  in response to the transport strike.

The educational institutions have opted to  shift to online modalities to ensure continuity in learning.

The following schools have confirmed class cancellations for March 24:

All Levels:

• Adamson University (Synchronous online classes)
• Cavite State University (Indang – Main Campus)
• Centro Escolar Integrated School-Manila (Online modality)
• Colegio de San Juan de Letran (Synchronous online classes)
• Far Eastern University (Manila & Makati) (Online)
• Manuel L. Quezon University (Online)
• Manila Central University (Online)
• Malolos City (Public & private schools) (Asynchronous or online distance learning)
• Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (Online modality)
• Philippine College of Criminology (Online asynchronous; onsite transactions shift online)
• Philippine Normal University
• Polytechnic University of the Philippines (NCR campuses)
• St. Louis Anne Colleges of San Pedro Laguna Inc. (Online learning)
• Trinity University of Asia
• University of Perpetual Help System Laguna (Online)
• University of Santo Tomas (Enriched virtual mode and remote work)
• Cabuyao City, Laguna (Switch to online learning)

Up to Senior High School:

• Mapúa University (Intramuros & Makati) (Online)

Until March 26:

Meanwhile, MANIBELA posted photos on its Facebook page, showing several passengers in Las Piñas, Quezon City, Pasay, Parañaque, and Caloocan,  who were supposedly stranded amid the transport strike.

MANIBELA chairman Mar Valbuena said false data on the public utility vehicle modernization program prevented PUV drivers with expired provisional authorities from renewing their registration.

He said they were misled by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in reporting that 86 percent of PUV operators had consolidated.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon admitted that only 43 percent of jeepney operators had been approved for consolidation.

GOV’T DEPLOYS BUSES

The government has deployed vehicles to ensure there will be no stranded commuters during the three-day transport strike from March 24 to 26.

Additional buses were sent to the EDSA busway and additional trains to MRT3, LRT1 and LRT2.

Free rides were also provided by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
