A COURT in Quezon City on Friday issued a warrant of arrest against Vice President Sara Duterte over charges of grave threats.
The arrest order was issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Judge Maria Angelica De Ramos after the court found probable cause to hold the vice president for trial on three counts of grave threats.
The court set the bail at P120,000 for each count in the charge.
The case was filed by the prosecutors in connection with an online threat where she said she had contracted hitmen to kill President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
“The Department of Justice notes the resolution issued today, Sept. 4, 2026, by Branch 98 of the Regional Trial Court of Quezon City denying the Motion by the accused Vice President Sara Z. Duterte to defer or recall the warrant of arrest against her in the criminal case for grave threats,” Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson Polo Martinez said in a message to reporters.
Martinez said that in the same Resolution, the Court found probable cause to hold the accused for trial on all three counts of grave threats and ordered the issuance of a warrant of arrest,” he added.
According to Martinez, the DOJ respects the RTC’s ruling and reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law.
He said the court denied a “motion to defer the issuance of or recall arrest warrant and quash the information” filed by the accused.
“The case shall now proceed to trial. As a matter of procedure, warrants of arrest are transmitted directly by the Court to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for implementation,” he added.
