A CANDIDATE for municipal councilor on Monday survived an ambush in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija.
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, the Nueva Ecija police identified the victim as Angelito dela Cruz, 67.
The victim, a resident of Bgy. San Fernando Norte in Cabiao, is running for councilor of Cabiao.
An investigation showed dela Cruz was driving his vehicle on way to Bgy. San Fernando Norte, Cabiao when upon reaching Jose Abad Santos Ave., two men on a red motorcycle suddenly appeared and fired shots at him.
The gunfires called the attention of the people in the area, prompting gunmen to immediately flee.
The councilor was left unscathed.
Police are conducting a follow-up operation to identify and arrest the suspects.
